Project Aware is an independent foundation which did not engage in politics, but focused solely on creation of Awareness. It represented that, what every person stands for; freedom. Freedom is the foundation of life.

Project Aware's primary aim was to create a process of Awareness. By making an appeal to everybody who thinks freedom is important, Project Aware enabled people to make their own contribution. Therefore, everybody was able to participate with Project Aware in their own individual way, as well as together. No exceptions. This way, Project Aware wanted to communicate a signal to everybody in order to end torture and oppression.

Project Aware communicated it's message in a personal, recognizable and accessible way through her projects. These projects appealed to all segments of the target group: children, youngsters and adults. Through a digital signature you could vote for freedom and help end torture and oppression.

Project Aware stood alongside other human rights organisations who work according to the classic methods (e.g fundraising); it added another dimension. Other organisations busy themselves with a broad range of activities like lobby, information supply, monitoring and research abroad. Project Aware only focussed on (media) attention. For all those other activities it formed a portal between the existing organisations and the public.

Project Aware did not ask for money, but Awareness. It operated fully on her partners and voluntary professionals.
Project Aware was based in Amsterdam and mainly operated from the Netherlands.
