Project Aware did not ask for money and handled its’ affairs on the principle of a “zero-costs-method”. Project Aware believed that a true charity should not ask for money without a good reason. On the one hand, Project Aware would not shout out the need for donations with boldly printed bank-account numbers, but on the other hand, it would surely raise its’ voice for Awareness, which according to Project Aware, must simply remain free of charge.
The consequence of this choice was that the costs of running the organization were supplied by sponsors that endorsed this initiative. Project Aware was completely dependent on the goodwill of third parties. Besides a number of companies that offered specific services or products, a good number of professionals also volunteered their resources and services, as well as all of our donor members who became Aware. This was the group that made our mission possible.
Project Aware has chosen this unique business strategy, and proved that money does not make the world go around. There were plenty of people willing to provide services to others without accepting payment in return. This was the reason that the organization emphasized its’ goal of raising consciousness and put the money issue on the back burner. This choice in strategy contributed to the clarity, transparency and trustworthiness of Project Aware. This (new) Aware strategy appealed to many people.
